MIDEL ester transformer fluids
Historically, mineral oil has been the main dielectric fluid specified for cooling and insulating transformers. However, since the 1970s other options have been introduced in the shape of synthetic and natural ester fluids which deliver a range of benefits to utilities, transformer manufacturers and major power users.
Risks associated with using mineral oil are flammability, high environmental impact and poor moisture tolerance. Ester based fluids provide the solution to these risks, while still offering excellent dielectric strength and cooling properties.
MIDEL esters are K-class, meaning they have much higher fire points than mineral oil, they also offer high moisture saturation points and are all readily biodegradable.
MIDEL 7131 – Synthetic Biodegradable Dielectric Fluid
MIDEL 7131 is a synthetic ester-based dielectric fluid that has been serving the global transformer market since the 1970s. MIDEL 7131 has been specifically formulated to provide a safe, superior alternative to traditional fluid and dry-type transformers and can be used in indoor or outdoor locations.
MIDEL 7131 is a high-performance fluid that offers increased fire safety, greater environmental protection and superior moisture tolerance. MIDEL 7131 is also acknowledged for its excellent dielectric properties.
MIDEL eN – Natural Biodegradable Dielectric Fluid
The MIDEL range includes two natural ester-based dielectric fluids manufactured from renewable seed oil. MIDEL natural esters have been formulated for use in sealed transformers under temperate climate conditions. They are also ideally suited to indoor installations where fire safety is a priority (K Class).
With a pour point of -31°C (much lower than soya-based ester fluids), MIDEL eN 1204 is the premier K2 natural ester transformer fluid. Made from sustainable rapeseed/canola oil, it is readily biodegradable, non-toxic and is FM and UL approved. MIDEL eN 1215 is a versatile, fire-safe ester transformer fluid made from renewable soybean crops.
